Nguyễn Thùy Chi, better known as Chi Pu, was born on June 14, 1993. She’s a Vietnamese actress and singer who shot to fame through her leading roles in popular TV dramas and sitcoms like Waterdrop, Happy Dream, and 5S Online. Chi Pu kicked off her singing career in 2017 and made waves in the industry. By 2020, she was recognized by Forbes as one of Asia Pacific’s 100 most influential digital stars.
Chi Pu lent her voice to the character Glim in the French animated film Mune: Guardian of the Moon. She also participated in the musical Thiên đài (The Rooftop), which is based on a well-known film by Jay Chou.
In 2016, she produced her first web series called Wake Up, which consisted of 7 episodes and aired on V Live and YouTube. Chi Pu was heavily involved, producing, co-writing, starring, and even singing the original soundtrack. The series had a budget of around $150,000, funded by Chi Pu and brand sponsorships. That same year, she performed her song “Fighting Fighting” at Viral Fest Asia 2016 in Bali, Indonesia. In October, she was invited to Seoul by Korean Daily News Hankook Ilbo and V LIVE for a tourism and beauty experience, and in November, she attended the first Asia Artist Awards in Seoul.
Chi Pu has released several tracks, including “Fighting Fighting,” “Stay with me,” Ngày bồng bềnh, and “Tada X’mas” featuring Gil Lê. She also placed third in Dancing with the Stars Vietnam Season 6.
After starting her singing career in 2017, she quickly caught the attention of both media and fans. In 2023, she was one of 33 contestants on the fourth season of the Chinese reality show “Sisters Who Make Waves.” By the end of the final episode on July 22, she had the sixth highest score and won two sub-categories, including the “Fan Favorite” award for her performance of “Shut Up and Dance” alongside Ella and former contestant Meng Jia in a previous season of the show, and the “Overcoming Challenges” award. Her performance earned Chi Pu a position as part of the 11-member girl group that will debut and be active in the Chinese entertainment industry after the show.
